Blogging thru the Bible starting with Luke

I have been following Cortney Joesph at www.womenlivingwell.com in a slowed down journey of reading through the bible.  She is organizing the reading and many people worldwide are following the plan.
I started to blog about this when the journey first began but for some reason I felt it wasn't time to yet. Seems the Lord teaches me patience by responding in a "not yet" a lot.

Here is a link to today's reading:
Luke chapter 1

Luke Chapter 1 covers a lot of information.  I love how many bibles break it down into sub sections.  The first section in my bible is  a dedication to Theophilus.  Explaining the book is an orderly account of the things that have been taught.

The next section is the birth of John the baptist being foretold. This is the section that contains my focus today. One of the most earth shattering  revelations I find in today's reading requires a little more research about the times and customs of this time span.  Zechariah's serving at this point in time was a once and a lifetime thing.  There were so many people that were rotated out and took turns that this opportunity to serve in the temple wasn't something that was repeated.  (I learned about this in a Sunday school lesson but click here to read more about this custom.) So out of all the times in his life that he serves in the temple God sends the angel Gabriel to tell him of his coming blessing of a child.  To me that is one of those WOW moments with God.  The one opportunity he has to serve God physically in the temple and he is rewarded with a blessing he has more than likely wished for for years. Yet when told about this blessing he is filled with doubt and loses his ability to speak until John is born.  This is an instance of God getting the attention of one who is filled with doubt and a wake up call for any christian that doubts the power of God.

There is much more that is very important reading in the chapter of Luke but read it for yourself today and pray about what God shows you and if you feel the Lord wants you to share your thoughts with others.  We can sharpen one another and grow in Christ by sharing what God reveals and lays upon our hearts!
